  • The Fall 2026 Meeting of the MD-DC-VA section of the MAA will be held at Randolph Macon College on October 30-31, 2026. (Halloween costumes are encouraged!)

    On Friday, Mindy Capaldi of James Madison University will run the workshop Explore Teaching with AI through Roundtable Discussions, and Annalisa Crannell of Franklin and Marshall/Interim Editor of the Monthly will give the banquet address, Double Take: Geometry, Perspective, and Optical Illusions.

    The Saturday morning address, Data With Purpose: How Modern Statistics Drives Solutions to Society's Greatest Challenges, will be given by Kimberly Sellers of North Carolina State University, and the Saturday afternoon address, Seeing the Beauty of Mathematics, will be given by Debra Hydorn of the University of Mary Washington.
  • Congratulations to Matthew Morena of Christopher Newport University, who was one of the 2026 Haimo Award recipients! Matthew was the 2025 winner of the section's Smith Award for distinguished teaching.
  • Spring meeting highlights – The spring meeting of the MD-DC-VA section of the MAA was held at Frederick Community College on April 24-25, 2026.
  • The Spring 2026 Newsletter is online. Highlights include Section Chair and Section Representative reports, a quantum computing class at Salisbury, and math fun and games.
  • News for the newsletter: If you have news for the next section newsletter, please fill out this form.
  • Award Nominations: If you are interested in making a nomination for either the John M. Smith Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching or the Sister Helen Christensen Service Award, please the Smith Award nomination page and the Christensen Award nomination page.
  • Section History: The section is always looking for information on section history. We are interested in information and stories about section meetings, summer workshops, people, newsletters and institutions. If you have anything to contribute, please email the webmaster.
