Summary of Responsibilities of Section Webmaster

The webmaster maintains the Section website. Ongoing duties involve posting information on the site, making sure things are easy to find on the website, and troubleshooting any problems that arise.

At various points during the year, executive committee members and others may send information for posting on the website. For reasonable requests, the webmaster should post the information in a timely manner on the website. Typical requests include:

  • minutes of the general membership and executive committee meetings
  • winners of Smith and Christensen awards, as well as student winners of awards at the spring meeting
  • information on how to make nominations for the Smith and Christensen awards
  • Section NExT information, including information on how to apply
  • the Section newsletter
  • dates and locations of future meetings
  • other important Section news

At least several weeks before each Section meeting, the webmaster works with the program chair, local coordinator, and other executive committee members to gather and post the information needed for the meeting webpages, which should be posted at least several weeks before the meeting. The needed information typically includes:

  • invited speakers' names, bios, and abstracts
  • information on hotels for the conference
  • costs and descriptions for meals
  • registration and other fees
  • deadlines for registration, contributed talks, and student activities

The webmaster manages the registration pages and provides registration data to the various executive committee members that need it. As the meeting approaches, the webmaster modifies or removes various registration pages as deadlines pass. Once the program chair has the schedule done, the webmaster posts the schedule and related information (such as abstracts, student poster details, directions and parking) online.

After the meeting, the webmaster should remove any remaining meeting registration pages and maintain an archive of information about the meeting on the site.
