The 2020 Business Meeting of the Illinois Section of the MAA
ISMAA will have a brief virtual annual Business Meeting on Saturday 4/18/2020 at 1:45pm on WebEx (meeting information below). During this meeting, we will approve the minutes from 2019 business meeting (found here) and present the following slate of candidates for the ISMAA Board.
Slate of Candidates
- Nomination for Chair Elect: Aaron Zerhusen (2020 - 2021 Chair Elect, 2021 - 2023 Chair, 2023 - 2025 Past Chair)
Aaron Zerhusen is an assistant professor in the Mathematics Department at Dominican University, where he has worked since 2013. He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics at the University of Kentucky, and master's and doctoral degrees at Purdue University. His mathematical research is in several complex variables and functional analysis, especially complex analysis in infinite-dimensional Banach spaces.
Zerhusen is currently an assistant professor of mathematics at Dominican University. Prior to that, he was a visiting assistant professor of mathematics at Illinois Wesleyan University. He has also been a researcher at the Mittag-Leffler Institute (Sweden) and the University of Oldenburg (Germany).
Previously, Zerhusen served on the ISMAA Board as a Director at Large from 2016-19 and as the Director of Private Colleges from 2014-16. As Director of Private Colleges, he was a member of the Program Committee. He chaired the committee in the 2014-15 academic year, and led the organization of the section meeting at Northern Illinois University that year.
- Nomination for Director of Public Universities: Chris Tweddle (2020 - 2023)
Chris Tweddle is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Governors State University. Chris was a Project NExT fellow (Sun Dot 2007). He earned his PhD from the University of Florida; his dissertation focused on applications of partial differential equations to medical imagining. He continues to teach and research in applied mathematics. Additionally, he serves GSU as the Associate Director of General Education. Chris has served one three-year term as a Director-at-Large on the board of the Illinois Section of the MAA. In addition to this term on the ISMAA board, he also served on the MAA Committee on Articulation and Placement (MAA-CAP) and is a charter member of Sports SIGMAA.
- Nomination for Director at Large: Wilfredo Urbina-Romero (2020 - 2023)
Wilfredo Urbina Romero is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Wilfredo has served on the Board of Directors of the Caracas' chapters of the Asociación Matemática Venezolana (AMV) and the Asociación Venezolana para el Avance de la Ciencia (ASOVAC) and president of the former organization from 2002-2004. He earned his PhD from the University of Minnesota; his dissertation focused on Singular Integrals and Special Functions. He is author of over 40 peer-reviewed articles, several monographs, editor of several book proceedings and author of a book.
- Nomination for Director at Large: Edward Boamah (2020 - 2023)
Edward K. Boamah is a mathematics professor at Blackburn College in Carlinville Illinois, where he has taught mathematics for about 15 years. He graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics in 1991. He remained at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to serve as a teaching assistant in the department of mathematics. In 1997, he pursued my Master of Science degree in computational and applied mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and completed in 1999. In August 2000, he gained admission to pursue a Master of Science degree in applied mathematics at the University Vermont in Burlington Vermont. He remained at the University of Vermont to complete a PhD in applied mathematics in September 2005. He has been in his current position as a mathematics professor since August 2005.
- Nomination for Section Information Coordinator: Sarah Bockting-Conrad (2020 - 2023)
Sarah Bockting-Conrad has been an assistant professor at DePaul University in Chicago since the fall of 2015. She earned her B.S. at the University of Evansville, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in algebraic combinatorics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Following that, she was a visiting assistant professor at Oberlin College in Ohio. She has been an MAA member for at least six consecutive years now and was both a national MAA Project NExT fellow and an Ohio Section NExT fellow. She has served three years on the Board as a Director-at-Large (2017 - 2020) and has been sharing the role of interim Section Information Officer for the past six months.
