2018 Tri-Section Meeting

The Ninety Seventh Annual Meeting of the Illinois Section of the Mathematical Association of America will be held jointly with the Indiana and Michigan sections of the MAA. This Tri-Section meeting will be held March 23-24, 2018 at Valparaiso Universiy in Valparaiso, Indiana. This is the 75th aniversary of the first Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan Tri-Section meeting in 1943 and the 25th aniversay of the second Tri-Section meeting in 1993.

The conference will begin at 9:30am CST on Friday, March 23, and conclude before 5pm CST on Saturday, March 24. There will be six invited plenary addresses, contributed talks by faculty, contributed talks by students, an inquiry based learning workshop for faculty, a workshop for students, Project NExT activities, a student competition, an art exhibit, and more. We hope that you will join us and that you will bring many of your students.

Here are several links at which to get more information and sign up to attend and participate:

The registration deadline for the conference and the student competition is March 2, as is the deadline for submitting a contributed talk. Registration is free for students and HS teachers, $30 for all other participants. There are options for up to three additional meals to be included in your registration.

Travel funds are available to support student attendance at the Tri-Section Meeting. Up to $50 per student is available for Illinois institutions to use in support of student travel, with a max of $200 per institution. Limited funds are available. We ask that institutions which already provide full support not request these funds. Travel funds are not available to the hosting institution or to institutions within 50 miles of the meeting site. Travel awards are available for all students (secondary, undergraduate, or graduate); however, preference will be given to students presenting at the meeting. The travel form is available as a Word document or as a PDF document. Please send completed forms electronically to Pat Kiihne (pkiihne@mail.ic.edu) by March 16, 2018.

A poster has been created for the meeting. Please post and distribute to your colleagues.

We look forward to seeing you at Valpo in late March.
