We were honored to have Art Benjamin, Stephen Kennedy, and our own Steve Butler give plenaries at the Fall 2016 Iowa Section meeting hosted by Grand View University. It was the Iowa Section's centennial. As it was a cause for celebration, we had a pizza party complete with reminiscing about the past 100 years of the Iowa Section of the MAA. Next fall, we will have our section meeting at Loras College in Dubuque.

Al Hibbard of Central College was awarded the 2016 MAA Iowa Section Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.
Nominations for the 2017 MAA Iowa Section Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics are now being accepted. Please send any questions to Section Secretary, Susan Crook, susan.crook@loras.edu.
The traveling trophy was presented at the fall section meeting to the University of Iowa, winner of the 22nd annual competition in February 2016. The 2017 competition will be held March 4 at the University of Iowa. See the contest page for further information.
It was recently decided that the competition coordinator will have a term length of five years. A subcommittee of the Executive Committee will be appointed to choose the new coordinator. Interested individuals are encouraged to volunteer, or nominations for the coordinator may be sent to members of the Executive Committee.
