We hope that your spring plans will include attending the section meeting at Drake, April 6 and 7. In addition to student and faculty presentations, invited speakers and the opportunity to visit with colleagues, there will be a special MAA workshop on grant writing. We hope that each school will be able to have at least one faculty member attend the workshop.
As usual, we will be selecting a chair-elect and we have two strong candidates, Catherine Gorini (Maharashi International University) and Steve Nimmo (Morningside College). On the unusual side, we have three members who are concluding their terms of service to the section and this impacts four different positions. Elgin Johnston (Iowa State) has been Governor and Contest Chair, Cal Van Niewaal (Coe) has served as Newsletter Editor and Alex Kleiner (Drake) has been our Liaison Coordinator. Elgin, Cal and Alex have provided outstanding leadership and we hope you will join us in expressing appreciation for their work and thanking them for their years of service. The election of a new Governor is conducted by the national office and the other positions are appointed. The new Contest Chair, Newsletter Editor and Liaison Coordinator will be announced at the section business meeting.
Bruce Sloan, Section Chair (on behalf of the section officers)

MAA Liaisons Meeting, Friday 3:45 pm, Mededith 102: The Mathematical Association of America's liaison program is intended to provide a contact person at each institution. This session will be an opportunity for liaisons to meet each other and discuss the role of the liaisons in their home institutions, in the Section and in the Association. All institutions are encouraged to send a representative to this session, especially those which do not currently have a liaison. This meeting is being organized by Alex Kleiner, Departmental Liaison Coordinator for the Iowa Section.
MAA Grant Writing Workshop, Friday 4:15 - 5:15 pm, Saturday 1 - 3 pm:
Many of the MAA section meetings this Spring will be featuring Grant Writing Workshops. These mini-workshops, led by NSF trained presenters discuss the keys to successful grant writing with emphasis on NSF/DUE programs. Many of the
materials to be used are posted on the Professional Development site on MAA Online.
To view the slide show presentation for the workshops click on Grant Writing Workshops under the Professional Development button on MAA Online or go to http://www.maa.org/pfdev/grantwriting/index.htm. To find out "Where the Money Is," go to http://www.maa.org/pfdev/grantwriting/money.htm. And, if you want even more helpful advice and in-depth training on the grant writing process, attend this valuable workshop at the Iowa Mathematics Meeting.
The workshop will run for three hours. The first session is 4:15 to 5:15 on Friday. The workshop concludes with a session from 1 to 3 on Saturday. Joe Yanik from Emporia State University will be the workshop leader.
MAA Luncheon (Saturday): There will be a luncheon Saturday for all meeting participants. It will be held in the Olmsted Center, Rooms 212-213. This will be a box lunch: sandwich, potato salad, cookie and beverage. The price is $7.50 per person. Advance reservations are required.
