MAA Iowa Bylaw Amendments Re: Section Representatives at National MAA Meetings

#1. Proposed Amendment to Iowa Section Bylaws: insert a new Section 7 into Article III (renumbering the subsequent sections accordingly) to have Article III, Section 7 read

Section 7. The Executive Committee will provide a Section representative to section officer meetings at MathFest and the Joint Meetings. One of the Chair, Vice-Chair, or Vice-Chair Elect should serve as the Section representative. If none of those officers are able to serve as Section representative, the Executive Committee will designate a Section representative.

Rationale: Section officer meetings at MathFest and the Joint Meetings are important meetings for the sharing of information between national MAA and the sections. It is imperative that our section have consistent representation at these meetings. This amendment requires our Section to have such representation.

#2. Proposed Amendment to Iowa Section Bylaws: insert a new Section 2 into Article V (renumbering the subsequent section accordingly) to have Article V, Section 2 read

Section 2. The Section will use funds to support representation (as described in Article III, Section 7) at section officer meetings at MathFest and the Joint Meetings.

Rationale: Section officer meetings at MathFest and the Joint Meetings are important meetings for the sharing of information between national MAA and the sections. It is imperative that our section have consistent representation at these meetings. There is a financial cost, partially defrayed by national MAA, associated with attendance at these national meetings and the section should support its desire for consistent representation by committing financial support to its representative. This amendment ensures that this occurs, but with a degree of flexibility due to not having specified a particular dollar amount of support.
