Supervising Research: Tips and Topics. Each panelist
gave a short presentation on the following topics: 1) How to recruit students
for research projects. 2) Where to find ideas for suitable
topics. 3) How to keep students involved and make sure the projects
are completed. 4) What support they receive from their department
and colleagues. 5) What rewards if any are there for
the students and the faculty? Organized by Magnhild Lien. Moderated
by Bernardo Abrego.

Panel on Community Outreach. The presenters described
community outreach programs in which they have been involved, emphasizing
how the project was organized and what it took to make it a success.
Angelo Segalla talked about Math Day at the Beach, a mathematics contest
for high school students held at California
State University, Long Beach. Perla Myers described a Family
Math Night held at an elementary school and tutoring. Organized by
Perla Myers and Florence Newberger. Moderated by Silvia Fernandez.
