Joint AMS-PNWMAA Section Meeting at Portland State

Mark your calendars and register now! A wonderful joint meeting of our MAA Pacific Northwest Section and the AMS Western Section at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon is planned for Thursday-Saturday, June 20-22, 2002.  Full information is available on the meeting website.

Anchorage Selected for 2004 Section Meeting

Start planning now for a trip to Alaska! The University of Alaska at Anchorage has been selected to host the annual PNW Section Meeting in the summer of 2004. Watch for the exact date and many additional details in future newsletters.

This meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to visit Alaska and explore its natural beauty with inexpensive lodging during the height of the tourist season. We expect that many of those attending the meeting will extend their visit to Alaska for trips to many of the wonderful summer locales around the state, and UAA plans to assist members with tour arrangements.

We would like to thank all of our members who took the time earlier this year to respond to the survey about holding a section meeting in Alaska. Your input was very valuable in our final decision. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage for their work in putting together a proposal for this meeting. We look forward to an outstanding meeting!

2003 Section Meeting at Whitman College

Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA will host the 2003 PNW Section Meeting on June 20-21, 2003. PNW Project NExT will also hold workshops prior to the section meeting on June 19. For additional information about the meeting, contact Albert Schueller (schuelaw@whitman.edu).

Revision of Section Bylaws

A review of the bylaws of the PNW MAA section was recently completed. The proposed revisions to the bylaws are included on pages 11-14 of this newsletter and will be voted on at the section meeting in June, 2002.

Section Logo Contest Extended

The deadline to design a logo for the Pacific Northwest Section of the MAA has been extended to June 10. The winning design will be announced at the section meeting in Portland. For additional details about the contest, see the Fall 2001 issue of Matters Mathematical, available online at http://myhome.spu.edu/bgill/maa/.
