Welcome!
As a tradition, AMC Coordinator of MAA-Michigan holds recognition ceremonies for
the Michigan award winners of the AMC competitions each year.
This year, we will hold our Awards Ceremony at Oakland University with
Professor Michael Merscher of the Lawrence Technology University.
Professor Merscher is a past chair of the Exam Committee for the Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition, and has been for many years the author of the LTU Annual High School Mathematics Competition.
Professor Merscher was named LTU's Faculty Person of the Year in 2003, and was awarded
the Mathematical Association of America Distinguished Teaching Award in 2010.
Professor Merscher will lead us to visit some very interesting patterns emerge when a real number is written in terms of a continuing pattern of fractions.
I sincerely hope that you will enjoy the evening and learn some behind the scene ideas for some problems in the LTU Mathematics Competition.
During the past five years,
we held Awards Ceremonies with distinguished speakers from Michigan universities,
and arranged a photo reception with Governor Granholm for the students at the Governor's office in Lansing.
The past AMC Michigan activities are archived under the Archive link on the left.
The purpose of having this page is to build a convenient tool to communicate
with the students, teachers, and the parents about our events.
The official AMC Coordinator (MAA-Michigan) website is
at the Michigan MAA site under "Competitions and Programs".
In summary, I am here to serve the students, their teachers, and parents.
Please join me in serving this wonderful community.
Sincerely,
Ada C. Dong, Ph.D.
