Dear Michigan AMC Winners,
Congratulations for your superb performance in the AMC competitions
during the academic year 2005-2006!
To celebrate your outstanding achievements, you, your parents, and your teachers
are cordially invited to the MAA-Michigan Awards Ceremony
in recognition of the AMC winners,
with Louis Jack Nachman, Professor of Mathematics, Oakland University.
The ceremony will start with a short mathematical presentation by Professor Nachman.
You will then be recognized by your teacher and
accept your awards from Professor Nachman.
Professor Nachman will present a short lecture on spherical geometry,
emphasizing the similarities and differences between familiar concepts in
plane geometry and trigonometry and their corresponding concepts on the sphere.
The ceremony will be held at Oakland University on Thursday, September 14,
from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Media Auditorium at 242 Elliott Hall.
Refreshments will be served.
The event is supported by American Mathematics Competitions and sponsored by
Oakland University, Wolfram Research, and the Art of Problem Solving Foundation.
Please refer to the program (in the green window on the right) for more details.
If you haven't done so,
please email and tell me if you will be able to attend the awards ceremony.
Siblings are welcome, but send me a note first please.
Remember to bring your cameras if you want to take pictures.
Professor Grossman, the former official photographer for MAA-Michigan, has kindly
agreed to take a group picture of the students and Professor Nachman for MAA publications.
