Title of TalkAlgebras and Coalgebras
AbstractWhile algebra is widely recognized as an important branch of mathematics, most people do not know how the objects called algebras play a vital role in our understanding of many commonly used number systems such as the real and complex numbers. In addition, the dual notion of coalgebras give us a way to introduce a new type of structure to these systems allowing us novel, exciting ways to talk about numbers. In this talk, we will explore the interplay between algebras and coalgebras, and I will show what information these algebraic structures give us about some of our favorite number systems.
