Section NExT

Section NExT is a professional development program for early career mathematics professors that was first launched in 2002. Members participate in activities at EPaDel section meetings, and participate in e-mail discussions about topics of interest (either proposed by moderators or by members themselves). It’s also a great way to meet colleagues from across the region.

Who can apply?

All faculty members who are pre-tenure and earned their Ph.D. within the last five years. Graduate students within one year of earning their Ph.D. are also invited to apply. Applicants must be affiliated with an EPaDel institution.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a member of the national Project NExT program; members and non-members of that program are encouraged to apply to Section NExT.

If I’m accepted, do I have to attend the EPaDel meeting every semester?

No, but we do strongly recommend it because many meetings will contain a talk or activity that we follow up with discussion via e-mail. Also, this is the best place to meet the colleagues you’ll be e-mailing with.

To help you get started, we’ll cover your fee for one meeting (starting in spring 2019).

How do I apply?

Just send an e-mail to both EPaDel Section NExT coordinators:

Include the following information:

I earned my Ph.D. too long ago to qualify. Can I still participate?

Yes, we hope you will! Most activities at EPaDel meetings are open to everyone.

We also need mentors to help moderate and offer suggestions during e-mail discussions. Send an e-mail to both EPaDel Section NExT coordinators (listed above) if you’d like to be added to that list.
