Brief Bio for
Michael Mays
Michael Mays received a BA degree in mathematics from WVU in 1973 and a PhD from Penn State in 1977, where he was a Curry Fellow. He was a student of Raymond Ayoub. His mathematical research has been mainly in combinatorics and number theory. His professional career has been at West Virginia University, with several visiting appointments at the University of Queensland in Brisbane and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. Besides the MAA Distinguished Teaching award, Mays has won departmental, college, and university teaching awards from WVU, and was a finalist at West Virginia's Professor of the Year recognition ceremony last year. He has served as president of the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics and was awarded their Distinguished Service award.
