Brief Bio for Kathy Ivey

Dr. Kathy Ivey is the Chair of Mathematics & Computer Science at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC.  She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Washington State University, an M.S. in Mathematics from Oregon State University, and a B.S. in Mathematics & English from East Tennessee State University.  She is a Co-Director of two PMET workshops for 2005, one elementary and one secondary.  In 2004, she co-directed one elementary PMET workshop.  Dr. Ivey has received several awards for excellence in teaching including the WCU College of Arts & Sciences Award in 2000, the WCU Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2001, and the UNC Board of Governors Award in 2002.  She has served on the editorial panels for several journals in mathematics education, and she has made numerous presentations at state, regional, national, and international meetings.  Her primary areas of research interest are how and what students learn about mathematics and the process by which mathematics students become mathematics teachers.
