Business Meeting
Wisconsin Section of the MAA
April 14, 2012
Milwaukee School of Engineering
1. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 by Section Chair, Clare Hemenway.
2. The minutes of the business meeting of April 30, 2011, were approved as posted.
3. The Treasurer's report was approved as posted on the section website.
4. Governor Andy Matchett's report is posted online in the Spring 2012 Newsletter. See his online report for more information.
5. Ken Jewell from Edgewood College was elected Chair-Elect of the section. Congratulations Ken!
6. Jon Kane was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the section, replacing Mark Snavely who is stepping down. Congratulations Jon!
7. The section voted to hold the Spring 2013 meeting at UW Marshfield/Wood County on April 5-6, 2013.
8. The 2014 meeting was tentatively schedule at UW Whitewater, and the 2015 meeting was tentatively scheduled at Ripon College..
9. The section voted unanimously to approve a change to the bylaws. In Article V, section 1, the following deletion was proposed and approved:
" The members at the annual meeting, or the Executive Committee at any of its meetings, may authorize the collection of annual section dues and/or registration fees for meetings."
10. MAA representative Frank Farris reported on the national activities of the MAA. You can view an expanded version of his presentation at this link. He also suggested that the section consider providing travel support for officers attending national meetings.
11. Laura Schmidt gave the report for Student Contests.
12. Steve Szydlik gave the report on Student Activities. Ken Price and Steve did a fantastic job setting up the FaceOff competition, and they are willing to do it again next year. Send potential game show questions to Ken or Steve.
13. Kirthi Premadasa reported for Wisconsin-NExT.
14. Jennifer Kosiak is the new liaison to WMC but was unable to attend the meeting.
15. Ben Collins reported as Public Information Officer. He reminded us that some campuses still need liaisons.
16. The section thanked Mark Snavely and Kristi Lampe for their service to the section. Thanks for a job well done!
15. Ken Jewell was welcomed as the new section Chair. Clare thanked James Swenson and the faculty at MSOE for an outstanding meeting..
