Directions to Cookeville and Tennessee Tech

FROM NORTH CAROLINA

In the unlikely event that Interstate 40 is not blocked by a landslide in the Smokies, take I-40 west into Tennessee to exit 287. Then see below.

FROM SOUTH CAROLINA

Take Interstate 26 north to Interstate 40 in North Carolina, and then it reduces to the problem already solved (that is, see the directions above (FROM NORTH CAROLINA))

FROM TENNESSEE

Take Interstate 40 to exit 287. Then see below.

FROM GEORGIA

Take Interstate 75 north to Chattanooga. Then take Interstate 24 west to US 27. (If your GPS or other device says to go east on I-75 and get off on TN 153, don’t believe it, unless you like lots of stoplights.) Take US 27 North (don’t take the US 27 South exit which comes first), and then in 23 miles, exit LEFT onto TN 111. Take that all the way to Cookeville, getting off at the TN 136 exit (labeled “Cookeville”). You will go under Interstate 40 at exit 287. Then see below.

SPEED TRAP ALERT! Be careful to observe the 45 mph speed limit in Spencer (at TN 30) and especially the 55 mph hour speed limit coming down the big hill just north of there.

FROM ALABAMA

Two options. A. Take Interstate 65 north into Tennessee, then TN 840 east to bypass Nashville and get to Interstate 40. Take I-40 east to exit 287. Then see below.

B. Take Interstate 59 north toward Chattanooga, then take I-24 east to US 27 North, and then pick up the FROM GEORGIA directions at that point.

“BELOW”

From I-40, exit 287, go north on Jefferson Ave about two miles to the courthouse square. On the far side of the semi-attractive Putnam County Courthouse (which looked nicer before they tore down the clock tower in the 1960s), turn left and go two blocks to Dixie Avenue. Turn right, take that to the Tennessee Tech Campus, and watch for the MAA signs.
