Spring Meeting
MAA Ohio Section
April 5-6, 2002
Journals as a Teaching Resource
Thomas Gantner
University of Dayton
President of the Section
Abstract: Today we can easily retrieve articles from over 100 volumes of the
Monthly from JSTOR in our homes and offices via the internet, and we can do
keyword searches for articles in the Mathematics Magazine and the College
Mathematics Journal through MAA Online. These journals contain a wealth of
articles that present basic mathematical concepts and proofs in ways not
normally found in textbooks. Such approaches can serve as supplementary
material for your classes. I will give several examples that I have found
interesting and have used in various contexts over the years.
