It was with great sadness that we learned that John Michel, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, passed away on May 15, 2018.  John was a member of the Marietta College mathematics faculty from 1970 until his retirement in 2004.  Prior to joining academia, John worked as a systems analyst and mathematician at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.  John continued his association with JPL during the summers for over three decades.  He was an active member of the MAA's Ohio Section, serving in various leadership capacities including section president, treasurer, and secretary.  John was also one of the earlier supporters of Ohio Project NExT.

There will be a memorial service for John on Saturday, June 30, at 2:00 PM in the Andrews Hall Great Room on the Marietta College campus.   In John’s memory, the Michel Family has established the John and Katharine Michel Fund for Mathematics at Marietta College.
