This year's teaching award winner has been active in our Ohio section, and with the national MAA, there chairing national committees and task forces. He is intensely involved with modernizing, through the prudent use of technology, the way all of us teach, and, in fact, the way all mathematicians throughout the world, teach calculus and statistics. To accomplish this he has numerous publications on this subject and has given dozens of workshops.
Besides all of this year's teaching award winner's acknowledged thrust in education at his school, throughout the nation and worldwide, he takes great care of the students entrusted to his care in his classes, and is acclaimed for his teaching by the students at his college. I would like to quote just a couple sentences from a letter of one of his students.
"He has mastered the art of teaching, and is an example to academicians everywhere. He cares not only for the education of his students, but for their lives in general. He is an academician, an educator, a teacher, and a great guy all around."Now, please join me in congratulating Ohio's 1999 teaching award winner, Zaven Karian from Denison University.
