The next meeting of the Michigan Section of the MAA and MichMATYC will take place May 7–8, 2004 at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. The Program Committee is planning an exciting and informative meeting with a variety of talks and discussions on mathematics, the teaching of mathematics, applications of mathematics, and other issues of interest to members of the Section. - Margaret Wright, Silver Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at the Courant Institute of New York University.
In addition to the talks by invited speakers, the Program Committee is planning sessions for contributed papers. Speaking at a contributed paper session is an excellent way to share the results of your work and to become better acquainted with your colleagues in Michigan. All members of the Section are encouraged to submit abstracts of papers to be presented in these sessions. Contributed papers may be on mathematical topics or may discuss curriculum or pedagogy. Instructions for contributing abstracts for one of the sessions are included in the “Call for Papers” on page 32 of the printed newsletter or on this site.
The meeting is scheduled to run all day Friday and through noon on Saturday. There will be luncheons both days and a banquet Friday evening. As is our custom, the Section will present both a teaching award and a service award at the Friday banquet.
The Program Committee for this year consists of co-chairs Gerard Venema (Calvin C) and Scott Barnett (Henry Ford CC), along with Kevin T. Andrews (OU), Deborah Loewenberg Ball (UM-Ann Arbor), and Earl Fife (Calvin C), , and . Please notify one of us if you have a suggestion regarding the program.
