The next joint meeting of the Michigan Section MAA and MichMATYC will be held on May 2–3, 2003 at Saginaw Valley State University. We are planning an exciting program with a variety of talks and workshops in mathematics, the teaching of mathematics, applications of mathematics, and other issues of professional interest. We are hard at work recruiting speakers and planning what we expect will be an exciting and informative program. Speakers to date include Jeffrey Weeks and Deborah Ball (UM-Ann Arbor). More details will appear in the Spring Newsletter, which you should receive in April.
In addition to our invited speakers, we will have sessions for contributed papers and a special session for papers by undergraduates. Instructions for submitting abstracts for one of these sessions are contained in the Call for Papers of this Newsletter. Speaking at a contributed paper session is an excellent way to share your work and become acquainted with your colleagues in Michigan.
The meeting is scheduled to run all day Friday and Saturday morning. There will be luncheons both days and a banquet Friday evening. As is our custom, we present both a teaching award and a service award at the Friday banquet.
The program committee for this year consists of co-chairs Steven Schlicker (GVSU) and Scott Barnett (Henry Ford CC) along with Paul Fishback (GVSU), Sid Graham (CMU), and Rebecca Walker (GVSU). Please notify one of us if you would like to give a presentation or if you have a suggestion for the program. Tom Zerger (SVSU) is the chair of the local arrangements committee. Contact information for all of us is given on committee page.
