The sixteenth American Mathematics Contest AMC8 was held last November 13, 2001. Michigan again led the nation in school participation with enrollment of 184 schools and was second in student participation with 13,220 examinations ordered. Credit and thanks again go to the Exam Managers of the various schools, without whose support, cooperation and enthusiasm the exam could not be offered. We also thank the Directors of Michigan’s Mathematics and Science Centers, along with several Gifted and Talented Program Coordinators for their support for the American Mathematics Competitions.
A total of 664 Michigan students earned scores of 16 or higher and were placed on the 2001 Michigan AMC8 Honor Roll; those with scores of 18 or higher have USA Honor Roll standing. A total of 343 students in grades six and below earned scores of 10 or higher to become 2001 Michigan AMC 8 Merit Roll Students; those with scores of 13 or higher have USA Merit Roll standing. All these students were awarded certificates of merit for their achievements.
