The Michigan Section-MAA Executive Committee voted at its meeting on September 29 to designate the Regional History Collections at Western Michigan University to be the depository for the official records of the Section. John Petro (WMU, emeritus), the Section's archivist, will be responsible for transferring to the archives the records that he has in his possession and which others send to him. This deposit agreement is revocable; the Section, if it wishes, may transfer the records elsewhere if it decides to do so at some future time.
The Collections (http://www.wmich.edu/library/depts/archives.html, 616-387-8490, arch_collect@wmich.edu) are located in East Hall on the East Campus of WMU and are open to the public. Metered parking is available nearby.
The documents to be stored at WMU include the Michigan Section Newsletter, reports at annual meetings, reports from other official activities of the Section (such as MMPC and HSVLP), minutes of the Executive Committee and other special Section committees, copies of special awards and commendations, copies of official correspondence, selected photos, etc. Duplicate items may certainly be kept elsewhere in the Section; however, the goal is to have as complete a collection as possible of the records of the Michigan Section in one place.
Please notify John (see contact information on the Committees and Appointments page) if you have records that may be appropriate for deposit. However, do not send the records to him until it is verified that they are needed.
