Report of the Resolutions Committee

Whereas Mississippi State University, Section Chair R. Shivaji, and the remainder of the faculty of the Mississippi State University Department of Mathematics have been gracious hosts, and

Whereas Jerry Goldstein, Louisiana State University Department of Mathematics, shared his expertise through an excellent invited address, "Nonlinear Semigroups" and Marcia Sword, Executive Director of the MAA, gave an entertaining and informative invited address, "Mathematics Education Reform and the Roll of the MAA", and

Whereas Paul Waltman, Emory University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, gave an enlightening workshop, "Mathematical Modeling", and

Whereas there was much interest and active participation in five panel discussions and in two sessions of contributed papers, and

Whereas the student mathematics competition and the student presentations continued to be an important part of the meeting, and

Whereas Bonnie Oppenheimer and Leslie Wood gave a delightful recital for the pleasure of the Section; therefore,

Be it resolved on this 4th day of March, 1995, that this 72nd meeting of the Louisiana-Mississippi Section of the Mathematical Association of America, held on March 3rd and 4th, 1995, be considered a great success that was enjoyed by all.

Furthermore, be it resolved that this Section will continue to promote mathematics, will strive to improve mathematics education, and will encourage and support students in their activities in the Section.
