Welcome!
Our 2011 KYMAA Annual Meeting is scheduled for March 25 - 26, 2011, at Eastern
Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. This meeting should be
outstanding and we strongly encourage you to join the fun. Perhaps you
and/or your students can give a talk, or just come and listen to what your
mathematical colleagues from across the state are up to these days.
More information is provided below, including information for students and a
call for papers. Information to facilitate your attendance of the KYMAA
meeting, including various forms for registration and talks and lodging
information, can be found by following the links above. Complete program
details will be provided soon.
Please note the following important dates for the KYMAA Annual Meeting:
- Monday, February 28 : Deadline for submitting abstracts for
talks at the meeting.
- Monday, March 7 : Publication date of meeting program on this
website.
- Friday, March 11 : Registration Deadline. You must
register by this date if you would like to join us for meals at
the meeting since the caterer needs a headcount by this date. At
the very least e-mail our section treasurer Molly Dunkum at molly.dunkum@wku.edu .
Payment for meals should be in regular mail by this date.
- Friday, March 11 : Hotel Discount Deadline. You must
book your hotel room by this date to take advantage of the negotiated
KYMAA discount. Information about the hotel can be found at Hotel Information
- March 26 - 27 : a grand celebration of Kentucky

For speakers, the rooms will have available PCs, laptop docks, ELMO
document cameras and whiteboard or chalkboard. If you need something
other than any of these, indicates so under "Equipment Needs" on the
abstract form. In general, the time for individual presentations will
be 15 minutes, including time for questions. Special presentations can
be allocated more time if necessary.
Call for Papers
Excitement is in the air as we prepare for a celebration of
mathematics! It is time to begin planning your talk for our 2011
Joint Meeting of the Kentucky Section of the MAA. The meeting will begin on
March 25 and conclude on March 26. The meeting
will take place at the Eastern Kentucky University. Faculty and students,
both graduate and undergraduate, from across the state and beyond
are encouraged to present a talk. Let us begin this new decade
meeting with a record number of presentations from faculty and
students! Whether you wish to present recent research, the solution
to an interesting problem, or share some pedagogical insight, your
submission is welcome. We are also always very glad to hear from
undergraduates about work they have done in summer research
projects, in competitions, or on honors projects. If you wish to
organize a panel discussion, please let us know.
For both faculty and students, if you wish to make a
presentation, fill out the Presentation Abstract Form and submit it
by February 28. A copy of the form can be obtained here: Presentation Abstract Form (MS

Form (PDF). In general, the time for individual presentations

Hotel Information
Special
rates have been negotiated for 40 rooms at the Red Roof Inn of
Richmond, KY, located at 111 Bahama Court, just off I-75 at exit 90
(one interchange north of the main EKU campus). Participants should
make their own reservations by calling (859) 625-0084 and state that
they will be part of the KYMAA group. Rates quoted do not include sales
tax.

These rates are $30 below their regular rates. Any rooms that have
not been booked by Friday, March 11, will revert to the normal rates.
Participants are also welcome to book rooms at other area hotels,
but no KYMMA discount will be available. If you are part of another
discount group (AAA, AARP, etc.) you may be able to find a comparable
rate.
Information About the Two Sites
Friday's afternoon meetings will be held on the lower level (rooms
001, 002, 003, 004, 005) of EKU's Business and Technology Center (BTC).
These modern rooms feature an integrated panel of laptop and ELMO
projection onto two screens, and tiered seating to provide good viewing
from all 40 seats. A registration table will be set up in the lower
level atrium on Friday afternoon.
The invited lecture Friday evening and all Saturday events will be
held in the Wallace Building near the center of campus. The invited
lectures will be held on the ground floor (room 147). The contributed
talks will be in the classrooms on the fourth floor (rooms 430, 431,
432, 433). These rooms feature a laptop connection to a projector and
an attachment for a portable ELMO, and hold approximately 30 seats. A
registration table will be set up in the hall outside of room 432 on
Saturday morning.
Directions/Maps
Directions to Friday afternoon events:
From I-75 get off at Exit 87 and head east on Eastern ByPass. Drive
approximately 1.5 miles and turn right at stoplight onto Kit Carson
Drive. After you cross Hall Drive you will see BTC down the hill to the
right. Continue along Kit Carson drive for a total of about 0.6 miles
until you see the Perkins building on your right. Event parking is in
the next rectangular lot on your right. You can walk down the hill or
along Kit Carson Drive to get back to the BTC.
Directions to Friday evening and Satruday morning events:
From I-75 get off at Exit 87 and head east on Eastern ByPass. Drive
approximately 1.5 miles and turn left at stoplight onto Kit Carson
Drive. The road will curve sharply left and then sharply right. After
the road turns sharply right you will see the Wallace building on your
left. Some parking may be available in the small square lot on the left
just beyond the Wallace building, but the main event parking is in the
large rectangular lot on your right at the next stop sign. You can walk
along Kit Carson Drive to get back to the Wallace Building.
