Iowa Section MAA -- Nominating Committee Report

The Iowa Section Nominating Committee (Elgin Johnston, Alex Kleiner, Mark Mills, and Cal Van Niewaal) has submited the following nominations.  Elections will be held at the business meeting at the Drake University on Saturday, April 7, 2001.

Chair Elect:
        Catherine Gorini    Maharishi University of Management
        Steven Nimmo       Morningside College
 

Cathy Gorini has been teaching at Maharishi University of Management since 1978, where she is Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Department of Mathematics. Her doctorate in mathematics is from the University of Virginia, where she studied algebraic topology. Her current areas of interest are geometry, coding theory, and mathematics education.

Cathy is the editor of Geometry at Work, a collection of papers in applied geometry, which was recently published by the Mathematical Association of America and she has served the Iowa Section as Student Chapter Coordinator.
 
 

Steve Nimmo graduated from Iowa State University in 1988 in nonassociative ring theory under the direction of Irvin Hentzel. He has been on the faculty at Morningside College since that time, becoming the chair of the Department of Mathematical
Sciences in 1994. Steve's current interests include the strenghtening of the student chapter of KME and the development of
an undergraduate research program for students at Morningside College.

Steve served two terms as secretary-treasurer of the Iowa Section of the MAA. He is currently the editor of  The Pentagon magazine which is the official publication of Kappa Mu Epsilon.
