The 2003 MAA-Iowa Nominating Committee (Alex Kleiner, Reg Laursen, and Lynn Olson) has submitted the following nominations. Elections will be held at the business meeting at the University of Northern Iowa on Saturday, April 5, 2003.

Al Hibbard, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, has been at
Central College since 1989. He did his undergraduate work at St. John's
University (MN) and completed his Ph.D. in group theory and K-theory at
the University of Notre Dame. He has been active in using technology in
his courses, particularly Mathematica. This interest has led to writing Mathematica-based
materials for the Calculus and Abstract Algebra
classrooms. Most recently, he has completed co-editing (with Ellen
Maycock) MAA Notes #60, Innovations in Teaching Abstract Algebra.
Although he is a fanatic about spending time in a racquetball court, he
also likes to take morning walks and to ride his bike
Sergio Loch received Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics and Physics from universities in Brazil. He moved to Wisconsin in 1987 to teach HS Math and Physics, and taught HS for two years. He earned a Master's Degree and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His dissertation was on Numerical Solutions of Hyperbolic PDE's using Finite Elements Method. He held a Post-Doctorate appointment at the University of Minnesota. Sergio has been teaching at Grand View College since 1993, and has been the Chair of the Math/Computer Science Department since 1995. He was a 1994 Project NExT Fellow, and is currently a member of MAA, AMS, SIGMAA on RUME, Statistics, and RUMEC. He is fluent in English, German and Portuguese. His hobbies include: traveling; playing, coaching, refereeing soccer; rock climbing (biggest accomplishment this far: Aconcagua Peak-highest point in America).
