INMAA Spring Meeting: March 22-23 at IU East

INMAA friends,

Please make plans to attend our March 22-23 section meeting at Indiana University East in Richmond. This is a change from a previously announced date to avoid a holiday conflict.

Invited speakers will be (1) Ivars Peterson, MAA Director of Publications and Communication, speaking on "The Jungles of Randomness" and (2) Aparna Higgins, University of Dayton Professor of Mathematics and MAA Project NExT Director, speaking on "Sequences of
Polygons." We also hope to tap these individuals' broad expertise for workshops/consultations on mathematical writing and undergraduate research. The IN NExT panel topic will be "Incorporating History across the Math Curriculum."

Please also consider giving a contributed talk at this meeting. A Call for Papers, Meeting Registration Form, and Lodging & Directions is on our web page at http://www.maa.org/indiana. The deadline for submission of a talk is Friday, March 8, but check the website for a possible extension of this deadline. ** Invite your undergraduate and graduate students to give a talk, and encourage undergraduates to participate in the Friendly Competition (ICMC). Student speakers will receive a coupon good for a free, or significantly discounted, book at the meeting's on-site book sale.

Early registration for the conference runs through Sunday, March 17; early registration guarantees a cheaper rate as well as availability of meals. The ICMC registration deadline is also March 17.

At the meeting, Robert Merkovsky (Purdue Calumet) will assume the position of Section Chair. The Nominating Committee has put forward John Rickert (Rose Hulman) as a nominee for Vice Chair and Haseeb Kazi (Trine University) as a nominee for Secretary. At our annual business meeting, additional nominations will be taken from the floor and the membership will elect our next Vice Chair and Secretary.

The Executive Board welcomes your comments and suggestions for INMAA activities. Also, INMAA has various committees with rotating membership; please let any of the Board members know if you are interested in serving in any way.

I look forward to seeing you at IU East.

Mel Royer
INMAA Section Chair
