INMAA Spring Meeting: March 23-24 at Ball State University

Colleagues,

I hope that your semester is going well and you are planning to attend our Spring Section Meeting at Ball State University on March 23 and 24.

We are privileged to have three invited speakers with us at the meeting. Matthias Weber, Indiana University, will speak after the banquet on Friday night. Michael Pearson, who is the executive director of the MAA, will present: Stirling's Formula: A Monthly Habit on Saturday morning.  Jeffrey Diller, University of Notre Dame, will present: Imaginary numbers, unsolvable equations, and Newton's method, on Saturday afternoon.

We have a Call for Papers, Meeting Registration Form, and Lodging & Directions available on our section web page http://sections.maa.org/indiana/ .  Please consider giving a talk.  The deadline for abstracts is Friday March 9.*  Encourage your students to attend the meeting, give talks and participate in the Friendly Competition (ICMC). The registration deadline and ICMC registration deadline is Sunday March 18.

During our annual business meeting, we will be considering a revision of the bylaws.

The current proposal can be found at

The Executive Board welcomes your comments. Any suggestions received before March 5 will be considered by the executive board and then the final version will be announced formally to the section.

The Nominating Committee has put forward Robert Merkovsky (Purdue Calumet) as a nominee for Vice Chair, Andy Rich (Manchester College) as a nominee for Secretary and Kurt Bryan (Rose-Hulman) as a nominee for Treasurer in 2011/12 year.

I look forward to seeing you at our meeting in March.

Patrick Sullivan,
Chair, Indiana Section
