The Common Core and its Fate in Indiana

Dear colleagues,

I hope that you all have had a fun, relaxing or productive summer. This year is the centennial anniversary of the MAA Indiana Section. Therefore, I encourage you all to be very active during this academic year at the Section level. So I would like to invite you to attend the fall meeting of the Indiana Section at Purdue University North Central in Westville on Saturday October 17. Our featured speaker will be Annalisa Crannell of Franklin & Marshall College (Lancaster, PA). The title of her talk is "In the Shadow of Desargues". Moreover, Kay Roebuck and Sheryl Stump of Ball State University will discuss the common core and its fate in Indiana.

This meeting presents a wonderful opportunity for you to give a talk on your research or teaching interest. Therefore, I warmly invite you (including students) to give contributed talks. A call for papers, meeting registration form, and information on lodging & directions is on our web page at The deadline for submission of a contributed talk is Friday, October 2.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Rickert (Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology) for the excellent job as Chair of the section last year. Under his leadership, we all enjoyed two wonderful meetings at Trine University (Fall 2014) and Taylor University (Spring 2015). My thanks go also to the executive board for their outstanding work: Daniel Kiteck (vice-chair), Haseeb Kazi (secretary), Josh Holden (public information officer), Alex Capaldi (treasurer), Justin Gash (student activities coordinator), John Lorch (section governor), and John Rickert (past chair). David Housman is our Visitors Program Coordinator and our Indiana Project NExT coordinator is Stacy Hoehn of Franklin College.

The Executive Board invites your comments and suggestions for activities within the Section. Also, we are in need of volunteers to service on various committees. Please let me know if you are interested. My contact is
