Another new course at Taylor is one that I developed last year called Problem Solving. It is a freshman course required of all mathematics majors. In it we hope to improve their problem solving and proof writing abilities, as well as expose them to some of the history of mathematics. There is a lot of group work, and the ultimate goal is to raise their mathematical maturity before they take their sophomorelevel courses. In addition, another explicitly stated objective relates to their appreciation of mathematical beauty.
