Student Math Contest

A Student Math Contest will be held on Friday, April 9 from 3:00-4:30 during the Annual Meeting of the Illinois Section-MAA at Augustana College. The Contest is likely to have a minimum of four problems for the teams to consider. A team from a particular college is to consist of up to 3 undergraduate students. A college may enter more than one team. A team may collaborate on the solutions of the problems. Electronic computational devices (and slide rule and log tables and abacii) are not allowed. (Note: The rule with respect to calculators is the same as for the Putnam competition and is different than what was posted here between March 25 and March 30, 1999.)

Immediately following the Contest, two of the members of the team which wrote the problems will explain the ideas behind each problem and present solutions to the problems. This session may run until 5:30.

The participating teams will receive the results of the contest as soon as they become available. The Contest results will also be published in GREATER THAN ZERO.

For additional information on the contest, please contact Professor Haverhals, ISMAA Student Chapters Coordinator, at the above address.

The meeting registration fee is waived for students presenting a paper and for students at schools which are Sustaining Instutional Members in the ISMAA.
