President's Message
Happy New Year Everyone! Hope you are all doing well and are off to a great start of the spring semester. I was fortunate enough to go to the Joint Mathematics Meeting in Boston and feel energized and excited for us and for the Mathematical Association of America. I feel that the MAA is working really hard in reaching out to its membership and I am very optimistic about the future of our organization.
As I am writing this message to you, I am also very excited about our 2012 Joint Annual Conference with FTYCMA at the University of North Florida from February 17 – 18th, 2012. It is always great to see the familiar faces and the new faces that come to these wonderful events.
We have wonderful plenary speakers. Our first speaker is Dr. Ivars Peterson. He is the Director of Publications and Communications for the MAA will be speaking to us on “The Jungles of Randomness.”
Our second speaker is Dr. Joseph O’Rourke who is a Professor and Chair of the Computer Science Department at Smith College. He will tell us about “Folding & Unfolding Convex Polyhedra.”
And, last but not least, Dr. Monica K. Hurdal from Florida State University will tell us about “Understanding Cortical Folding Patterns in Development, Aging and Disease.”
At this time, I would also like to remind you that there is still time to submit to participate as a speaker. Please come and bring your students and colleagues with you so we can have a successful and fun Joint Conference!
I look forward to seeing you there!
