It is with great sorrow that we report that Dr. Pam Crawford passed away suddenly on March 17, 2019.

Pam has been a mathematics professor at Jacksonville University since 1999 and, for the last several years, served as the Chair of the Department of Mathematics there. Pam earned her B.A. and M.S. degrees from Lehigh University and completed her Ph.D. from Western Michigan University in Complex Variables.

Pam has actively served the Florida Section of the MAA for the last two decades. She has served the section as Governor, President, Vice-President for Programs, and Vice-President for Site Selection. These are all of our important positions. She was also a member of the Executive Committee, the Awards Committee, and the Nominating Committee for many years. Without doubt, Pam was a guiding force throughout our section. In 2018, she received the FL-MAA Award for Distinguished Service.

At Jacksonville University, Pam was the consummate professor. She enjoyed teaching the entire mathematics curriculum but especially calculus, the history of mathematics, and complex analysis. Pam was recognized as the 2015-16 Professor of the Year at JU. She also served as the university’s liaison officer with the SACS Commission on Colleges. She is the author of several articles on the ‘scholarship of teaching and learning in mathematics.’

Pam Crawford was an outstanding professor, teacher, mentor, collaborator, and friend. She will be deeply missed.

Family are asking people to honor Pam’s legacy and memory with contributions to the Dr. Pam Crawford Mathematics Scholarship Fund at Jacksonville University. The link is Dr. Pam Crawford Mathematics Scholarship Fund at Jacksonville University.
