Position Announcement

The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics beginning Fall 2008. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, direct honors theses, and may participate in interdisciplinary teaching. Average teaching load is 5 courses per year.

The Wilkes Honors College, which opened in 1999, is a liberal arts college within a state university, located in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida. Its four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and cross-disciplinary programs such as environmental and international studies. The successful candidate will be one of 38 enthusiastic faculty members (4 in Math) with broad interdisciplinary interests. See http://www.honorscollege.edu.

Areas of specialty are open. The committee will view favorably experience with computational tools such as Matlab and Maple, mathematical modeling, discrete mathematics, statistics, or other areas that interface with environmental, biological, or social sciences. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and potential for quality scholarship.
