Faculty News

We are proud to announce that Joni Pirnot won the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Award. NISOD is a professional organization that emphasizes the importance of teaching and leadership excellence in institutions of higher education. Congratulations Joni!

Two of our colleagues in the mathematics department received promotions this year. Joni Pirnot was promoted to Associate Professor and Altay Özgener was promoted to Assistant Professor.

It is with pleasure that I announce that the following mathematics faculty are now on continuing contract: Altay Özgener and Davidson Pierre.

We are pleased to announce we have added three new members to the MCC Mathematics department next fall. They are Janet H. Samuels, David Nezelek, and Stacie Badran.

Janet H. Samuels has her M.A. from USF and a BSE Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. She has a long list of experiences to bring to MCC including being one of our adjunct instructors in 2004-2005.

David Nezelek earned his M.A. in mathematics from USF, B.A. in mathematics from State University of New York, and he attended New College in Sarasota after graduating from Pine View High School in Osprey. While at USF, David was a graduate teaching assistant.

Stacie Badran earned her Ph.D., M.A., and B.S. degrees from Florida State University.  She started her academic career in Chemical Science then moved to Mathematics Education for her higher degrees. She comes to us from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and has a long list of research and scholarly presentations.

After over twenty years of service to MCC, we have two members of our mathematical community retiring. David and Sandra Jessee will both be retiring at the end of the spring semester 2007. David has been a member of the mathematics faculty for 26 years and Sandra has worked in the mathematics office for 23 years. We will miss both of you and enjoy your retirement.
