David Allen, St. Pete/Gibbs campus, authored an article that was published in NCTM’s Mathematics Teacher, Vol. 100, No. 5, December, 2006. The article, entitled "Trinomial Factoring", was included in Reader Reflections and. presents a simple and effective procedure for factoring trinomials of the form ax2 + bx + c.

Jim Rutledge, St. Pete/Gibbs campus, gave a presentation entitled "Implementing the Standards—A Success Story in Liberal Arts Math" at the annual AMATYC conference in Cincinnati in November.

Jim Rutledge’s online Mathematics for Liberal Arts II course (MGF 1107) was nominated by St. Petersburg College for the Instructional Technology Council’s Outstanding Online and Blended Courses Award for 2007. Jim’s math course makes use of a number on online resources in MERLOT (www.merlot.org) and is based on his textbook, Math Is Everywhere! Explore and Discover It! that has been published by Pearson.

Jim was also nominated by St. Petersburg College for the Instructional Technology Council’s Outstanding Distance Learning Faculty Award for 2007.

Daryl Schrader has been writing a monthly astronomy column for the St. Petersburg Times since 1990.  The column, which appears on the last Monday of each month, discusses current celestial events in the night sky, local planetarium shows and activities, and other related news.
