Candidates for Second Vice Chair
David Offner: David Offner is an assistant professor of mathematics (associate as of July 2015) at Westminster College. He received his PhD in Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization from Carnegie Mellon University in 2009. His research interests are in extremal combinatorics, graph theory, and game theory. He enjoys mentoring undergraduate research projects and working with future and current mathematics teachers. He lives dahn in Pittsburgh with his wife and two kiddos.
Joseph Walsh: Since graduating from Stony Brook University with a PhD in mathematical physics, Joe Walsh has served as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Bethany College in West Virginia. He spends much of his time improving his teaching through active learning, flipped classroom, and IBL methods. As advisor to BethanyÕs Math and Computer Science Club, he has chaperoned trips to the Smithsonian and the Museum of Math in addition to helping club members organize STEM competitions for local high school students. A Project NExT Fellow (Brown Õ13 dot), Joe is excited about the opportunity to get more involved with the Allegheny Mountain Section of the MAA.
